Many may have never seen this movie. Many more will shudder at the casting, but really this movie is not too bad. Made in the early 40′s it stars Lon Chaney Jr. as “Count Alucard” (that’s right spell it backwards and see what you get) who comes to the USA (the bayou) to set up shop. The story is a bit unique in that the female lead actually invites the count to come because she wants to become a vampire.
I won’t spoil it for you and tell you why, but it was the first time a vampire film had ever taken this kind of path. Why is it called Son Of Dracula? You got me but if you can get past the strange casting of Dracula then it is actually an entertaining and classic Universal horror of the 40′s.
