Brooklyn Halloween Wrestling Championship 2011

Little known to the outside world…….there is an annual event. It takes place on one special evening.

Matches are held throughout the year deciding WHO qualifies to participate and become the most monstrous champion. The winner gets to hold onto the highly coveted Brooklyn Halloween championship belt, and those are big time bragging rights. Let me tell you that NO ONE can brag like a monster can!

What am I speaking of? Why you will just have to be here at the annual Brooklyn Halloween Show and live through the amazingly frightful sights and sound for yourself.

Here’s another sample of the prep work.

And This Year’s Brooklyn Halloween Show Is………………….

No official name yet but let’s put it this way. It is the slambangenest, tied in two, raucous down and dirty show yet. Monster tag team wrestling Brooklyn Halloween Show style!

And what a cast of characters. 2 hideously mean and ugly monsters. 2 heroic type monster fighters. 2 sinister managers, a “simian” type referee, a femme fatale and of course lots of special moves. SLAM! CRUNCH! PILE DRIVER! BLOOD SPILLS! APPENDAGES LOST!

Can your heart take the excitement? Who will win the title of Brooklyn Halloween Tag Team Champion?

We won’t know until the match on Hallows Eve, but until then here’s the crew in their usual setting building and making the magic happen. Not exciting, but hey, that’s for Oct 31.

Diorama Of Miracles

Speaking of monsters…….well that is what we do here isn’t it? Here is a link to a video of a HUGE monster model diorama I am building. Keep in mind now, this will take years to complete, but this is an in progress video from last year. There has been more progress made since this was shot but you got to  start somewhere.  It’s a crude video but you get the idea that the Diorama of Miracles (that’s what I am calling it) will contain about 150 model kits. Many around 12″ tall or more. It’s Halloween so THINK MONSTERS!

Dracula Movie #3, Nosferatu

I am going to assume everyone has seen at least a pic of Nosferatu somewhere/sometime in their life. Right? Nosferatu….is a classic,  eerie German silent film that was also the first Dracula film. Problem is they made the film without securing the rights for the story (which is why they didn’t use the name Dracula) and Bram Stoker’s widow (Stoker wrote the book) ordered many copies of the film destroyed. Fortunately for all of us some copies survived and today we can watch this classic in our homes as a beautifully restored DVD from Kino.

This Dracula is pretty monstrous carrying rats, disease and plague with him wherever he goes.  Even today the film and it’s images are effective. Worth a look from any Dracula or vampire fan, and light years more effective than any Twilight story. Nosferatu is bad ass and would tear those skinny, pathetic Twilighters in two without even trying! An excellent Halloween movie.

Best,

Robert

Dracula Movie # 4, Dracula TV Version 1973

If you have never seen this it is worth a look. Jack Palance plays a pretty damn good Dracula, and for a TV movie it’s not bad at all.  Written/adapted by the great Richard Matheson and directed by Dan Curtis of Dark Shadows/Night Stalker fame,  it was the first time that the romance angle and military history of Vlad Tepes (Dracula) had really been explored in a film.  Continue reading →

Dracula Movie #5 Blacula

What is Blacula anyway? Well…..it’s a dated, swinging 70′s “blackploitation” vampire film that’s what, but it’s a bit more too. It stars the late, great William Marshall. Continue reading →

Dracula Movie # 6, Horror Of Dracula

I admit it! I love this one. Once again nowhere close to a straight adaptation of Stoker’s novel, but who cares? It was a gothic “horror” film revival by Hammer studios, and it was in color. Lots of rich colors, blood, great music by James Bernard, AND it starred Peter Cushing (as Van Helsing) and Christopher Lee. Continue reading →
